Chicken Chow Mein

You've just got to trust me. These pictures aren't great, in fact they're pretty awful. Don't let them turn you off because this is the tastiest dinner and it's so healthy for you! It's full of veggies, there are no creams in it and it's DELICIOUS! You've got to try it!

Ingredients:

1 zucchini

4 mushrooms (added last)

1 onion

3-4 stalks celery

handful of bean sprouts

3 chicken breasts

Soy Sauce

Chicken Bullion

Corn Starch

Water

Brown Rice

Optional: Chow Mein Noodles

Directions:

Start off by getting some brown rice in your rice cooker

Next, start boiling your 3 chicken breasts (optional: add some chicken bullion to the water)

While those are going:

Cut up your onion and 3-4 stalks of celery and add them to a large pot

Add enough water to the pot that the onions and celery are generously covered. I guess every time. It just all depends on how many vegetables you actually add. In the end you want it to be a stew-ish consistency. So you'll probably be adding more water later on! By the way, turn your burner on high and get it cooking!

Optional: Add some chicken bullion for extra flavor. As much as or as little as you want.

Next, cut up your zucchini and 4 mushrooms. I usually put in more because I like the vegetables! If your chicken is done cooking you can add the zucchini and mushrooms to the pot. You just don't want the zucchini or the mushrooms to cook too long and get all soggy. So make sure they're added near near the end.

When your chicken is finished cooking, cut it up and add it to the pot

Like so! At this point, you'll know if you need to add more water.

You're going to add some cornstarch which will thicken the water into a stew-ish consistency. If you've never used cornstarch before, just know it has to be mixed with COLD water.

Put about half a cup of corn starch in a 1 cup measuring cup

Add COLD water to it and whisk it together

Now slowly stir in the cornstarch and water into your pot

After a few minutes of boiling, your Chicken Chow Mein should start thickening. If it doesn't- add more! I have to do this a lot because the amount always changes based on how much water I have in my pot. Because it's not like, add six cups of water, you just never know. You can't mess this dish up though so don't worry. If it's not thickening, just add more cornstarch and water!

After it's started thickening, add your handful of bean sprouts and some soy sauce. I guess on the soy sauce every time too! I just keep adding more and more until it I can taste it!

It should be thick, like a stew. If it's not- add more corn starch.

When the Chow Mein is finished, serve it over brown rice and with chow mein noodles!

I love this dish because it's really healthy. It's one of those feel good meals. Plus Brian and Boston really like it. This makes enough for Brian (who eats a TON) to get super full, me and for us both to have left overs the next day. By the way, this makes the best left overs because in the fridge the corn starch will continue to thicken. Mmmm so yummy!

Seriously- have this for dinner next week. You won't regret it! If you do, I'd love to hear if you and your family liked it!

What is emo?

Emo means emotional rock. This phrase is contradictory, I know, most of all music is emotional in one way or another.

What sets this difference?

Emo is extra emotional (large if you could tell), which is why it is known as emo. This phrase describes now letters of life, love, and the consequences, bad bar chords, power chords fast, melodic guitar riffs, and punk-rock, and drum beats. The most popular instruments for emo bands are guitar, bass and drums, but occasionally, a violin or a synthesizer will open.

Emo fashion:

Most people use emo-type pants and a kid-sized t-shirts with blood sneakers old school Chuck Taylor, 1980 Reebok style, or Sauconys. Flannel shirts, pop collars, trucker hats, sunglasses, large, long hair and faux hawks are also popular. A faux hawk is a very large mo-hawk, which is not as drastic or as eye catching as a traditional Mohawk.

Stereotypes:

All you hear is a stereotype. It can be a gentleman and business professionals who enjoy the emo scene. It can also be a long-haired hippie-like stoner emo enjoying a once in a while.

Emo Story

The history of emotions is less ambiguous than its current meaning. "Emo" music developed out of the DC punk scene in the 80's. In its original incarnation, emo was short for emocore, or emotional hardcore. The name was applied to hardcore punk bands of rock that stands apart from its peers by adding an emotional component to his music, which is the sadness and love and angst in their lyrics. The music was also characterized by particularly dramatic voice, the best, left the audience in an emotionally charged state, crying or screaming. These days, emo has been popularized and sent into the mainstream through bands like Dashboard Confessional, Taking Back Sunday and Saves the Day.

Scene Hairstyles

Colorful and popular hairstyles are fashionable right now in these days. Anything that is very bright and stresses that will be the cool haircut wear. An example of a type of haircut that you may have seen before is the hair of the scene. This type of haircut is fairly new, but it is getting popular very quickly. It is usually associated with emo but they are two different things.

To begin, the hair scene can be used in men and women. That tends to look good in most of the girls, but a lot of guys tend to get good results too. It all depends on who you are and how you are going to see you. You have to experiment to see what scene hairstyle is best for you.

The number one rule for this type of hair is to keep the hair as straight as possible. Most people do not like haircuts curly and this type of style is no different. If you have curly hair, straightened it.

The type of cut that is going to get will be a very important factor to decide whether to stay or not. Hire a professional to cut your hair for you. Also, try to get someone who is familiar with modern hairstyles.

By getting cut, go for the jerky looking guy and get your hairdresser to layor hairstyle for you. Do not forget to add some color to your hair cut too. This will stand out and have people notice your new hair spray.

For children, go get a black and bright streaks throughout her hair. Generally, girls can go with bright colors in all respects. It does not matter much. As I said before, everyone has different hair to do what they think will look best on you.

All about BRAIDS!

There are essentially 5 different types of braids. You've got the classic braid, including the french braid and the boho braid, you've got the fishtail and the rope braid.

The classic braid is made from three sections of hair. Obviously! What's nice is that the classic braid is totally back in style. They are no longer associated with old school pioneer hairstyles.

Stemming off the classic braid is the french braid.

French braiding is extremely popular right now and can easily be done on yourself. With lots of practice and patience! French braiding has been around for centuries- for good reason. It keeps the hair out of the face, it's quick and easy, the style can look formal or casual depending on how the braid is done and let's face it. It can look totally soft and gorgeous!

Another branch off the classic braid is the boho braid.

Can you tell the difference between the boho braid and a regular french braid? Instead of the braid lying underneath, the braid is sitting on top. If you're used to regular french braiding, the boho braid can be tricky. You've got to teach your hands to braid OVER instead of under. These braids create wonderful texture.

The next type of braid is the fishtail braid.

Fishtails are absolutely fabulous. They can look super messy or sleek and sophisticated. The fishtail looks intricate and tricky to do, but with a bit of practice becomes nearly as easy to create as a regular three-strand braid. Like most braids, it looks a little bit better slightly messy, so if you mess up while trying to create the fishtail braid- no worries!

The next style is the rope braid- created by twisting two strands of hair together.

Rope braids can be simple or intricate. This is what I call the
waterfall twist.

Rope braids can be fast and simple. I think they're great for holding bangs back and keeping hair out of your face.

Braids are wonderful in the fact that they can easily be done by yourself. They camouflage greasy roots or messy, tangled hair, and if you're growing your bangs out, braids are perfect for keeping them out of your face. Braids create so much texture and look awesome.

Have you ever brushed your lips? Yeah I'm talking like, toothbrush brushed. I'm not sure if this is a super old trick, but I just barely learned that if you brush your lips with your tooth brush twice a day it helps exfoliate dead skin and your lipstick will look better on your super smooth lips. I use Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour Color, it's like a lip paint that I seriously swear by. When my lips are dry though it looks awful. So. Exfoliate. Who knew?!

Apparently Hemorrhoid Cream, yes you read that right, reduces under eye puffiness and dark circles. It contains chemicals that constrict blood vessels. So use it under your eyes and on other red marks- like ZITS! Shut up?! I'll have to try it... it seems crazy!

Have stick straight lashes? Yeah, me too. I have a friend whose are absolutely perfect. Shawnee- I hate you! ANYWAY. That stupid lash curler has never really worked for me. Until I started heating the sucker up with my blow dryer. Yup! Blast it with some heat and it works like a curling iron on your lashes!

Use your hairspray bottle to dry the hairspray. I can't believe I haven't shared this secret- it's such a part of my daily routine I totally just forgot about it! Rat your hair, hair spray it and then hold the can up to your roots while the hairspray dries!

According to Woman's Day, eggs are good for your hair. Use the entire egg to condition. Use only the egg white to treat oily hair and use only the egg yolk to moisturize dry brittle hair. The yolk is rich in fats and proteins which are naturally moisturizing. And the egg white contains bacteria-eating enzymes which will remove unwanted oils! Who knew?! Rule of thumb, yolk treatment- once a month. White treatment- once every two weeks. Leave it in for about 20 minutes and rinse with cool water. You don't want scrambled eggs in your hair!

Each face needs applying make-up to a degree. To make a face look more natural it is very important to know how to apply make-up. Sometimes incorrect make-up fails to make a woman look more attractive, moreover, it can give her a ridiculous look. It is possible to achieve a lot by the skilful use of make-up-not only to conceal some defects but also to enhance beautiful features. Women have been applying make-up more often lately trying to spotlight their beauty. There are two types of make-up: day and evening. There is also professional make-up (used by actors or top models), which we are not going to talk about. Before applying make-up it is necessary to determine the face shape.

A round face looks narrower if the cheeks are powdered with a darker shade. To spotlight a chin, you should powder it with a lighter shade.

A square-shaped face looks rounder if it is powdered from the ears to the chin with a dark shade. The cheeks are evenly coloured with blusher by circular movements. A double chin is powdered with a darker shade and the upper part of the chin and the lower jaw are powdered with a lighter one. If the chin is too small, it should be powdered with a light shade.

A heart-shaped face is made up in the following way. The forehead, temples and the chin are powdered with a dark shade and the area to the left and to the right of the chin is powdered with a lighter shade. The high cheekbones are diminished with the help of blusher. The narrower lower lip is coated thick with lipstick.

An oval and narrow face is corrected by powdering the outer part of the cheeks and the temples with a lighter shade.

The chin is powdered with a dark shade. The cheeks are coloured thinly with blusher. The lower lip can be made a little wider than the upper one.

A short nose can be corrected in the following way. Light-coloured powder is put on along the nose and the sides of it are shaded in with dark powder. The upper lip is coated with more lipstick than the lower one.

A long nose will look shorter if its upper and lower parts are powdered with a darker shade.

The form of glasses.
Women have difficulties in choosing glasses.
They often choose a frame of unsuitable material and form.
That is why they avoid wearing glasses which does a lot of harm to their eyesight. But a well chosen frame not only makes your face beautiful but even decorates it. Choosing glasses you must mind the shape of your face.

If it is oval, the frame must be thin and slightly rounded. It mustn’t go beyond the area of your eyes but exactly cover them. A thin frame with slightly lengthened and raised up angles matches a round face. Such a frame makes your round face a little oval.

A face of a triangle form, narrowing in the upper part and widening in the lower part requires broadening of the upper half. In this case a thick frame with lengthened up angles will suit.

The face of a triangle form with a sharp chin and a broad forehead will be matched with a narrow frame without sharp angles, where the upper line is parallel to eyebrows. This frame lessens the cheek prominence.

A rectangular face should be broadened with the help of a thicker frame, the upper line of which must be straight and horizontal and the lower part slightly rounded.

A face of a square form must be made longer. An almost round frame will be suitable.

Apparently baby shampoo is the second harshest shampoo on the market. Who'd have thought? It's terrible. Anyway. If you color your hair this tip is for you. Have you ever come home from the salon and your color is WAAAAAY too dark? And you have to wait a few weeks for it to calm down? I've got a secret for you!

Get in the shower, wash your hair with baby shampoo and leave it in for five minutes. Rinse and condition. The chemicals in the baby shampoo will open your cuticle, release some of the color and the conditioner will seal it right back up. Your hair will be ONE shade lighter than what you had before. And don't worry about using the baby shampoo on your hair, one time won't damage anything.

It's just as good as going into the salon, getting under the sink and having a stylist work on you. Pretty sweet huh?!

My sister Mel is super creative. I keep telling her she needs to start a blog- share her ideas with the world. She says she can just share them with me and I'll take care of it. No fair! I want in on the crafts and less computer!

I am so doing this. The reason why I love this is because these notebooks are 99 cents at Wal-Mart. AND, when you start accumulating journals it's annoying when they are all different shapes and sizes. On a bookcase, in a drawer, whatever and wherever you end up putting your full journals, using a consistent size will make things look so much cleaner!

Birthday posters!

CAUUUUUTE HUH?! Her kids absolutely LOVE these posters. The posters are right next to their dinner table and the boys were constantly talking about the pictures and "remember when's". It was so cute!

Oklahoma part II of II

OSU has these crazy traditions. Do you see that huge mural behind us? Made out of tissue paper. Remember in like, third grade sticking a square of tissue paper on the back of your pencil and dipping it in glue? Yeah. That's what this mural is. And to make it even more awesome, the tradition is that it's not started until the night before the "walk around". Each sorority/fraternity does one and they are SO awesome!

We were super sad to leave Oklahoma. I'm not sure when we'll make it back. Boston is BEST friends with the "boys". He totally played with Hudson for hours and hours without needing me. It was amazing. The plane ride home was a disaster, but we are alive. Buddy has been super sad to not have any cousins around. I'm tellin' ya, he should have been the youngest!

HAIR TIPS!! Last 3 paragraphs are a must

So on the way to Oklahoma my mom sat next to this very nice man named Harvey. Turns out he's been a high fashion hairstylist most of his career and has styled everyone's hair from Tom Cruise to front cover magazine models. He was so intriguing to talk to that I just had to have him touch up my roots. Where was the camera when I needed one?! He was the SWEETEST man ever.

He worked on developing hair extensions in the 80's on white women. See, African Americans have been weaving in extensions for a long time. But nothing could hold the extension in a white woman's fine hair. So he worked on developing the glue with a man from Chicago and started putting them in white women's hair. No one seemed to care for the idea. He worked on a lot of thinning anorexic hair and cancer patients. After a few years it totally took off. He's been all over to help manufacturing plants process the hair correctly and he was at one point, one of the only hair stylists who knew anything about hair extensions. His stories were fascinating.

Anyway. He shared with me one secret that I thought you should all know.

My entire life I have heard -from EVERY SINGLE hairstylist- that if you are growing your hair out, you need to get it trimmed every SIX weeks. Well my cute friend Harvey told me this is a huge fallacy. Getting it cut every six weeks is pertinent to those who have short hair, to help keep the shape. He said the SOONEST he would get it cut is every 12 weeks. Even then, he'd wait longer.

This is his reason: the hair end is going to split 1/4 of an inch over a six week period. At 12 weeks it's still going to be a 1/4 of an inch. At 15 weeks, still a 1/4 of an inch. He said to save your money on frequent hair cuts and spend it on product. So for those of you wanting to grow your hair out- try going 3 or 4 months. See what your stylist says. I can't offer any personal advise on this because I got mine trimmed every six weeks when I was growing my hair out. Took forever, but it did produce results. If it were me, I'd trust my good ole' friend Harvey!

Have a stylist diagnose what products your hair needs. Some stylists aren't able to do this- it doesn't mean they aren't great stylists. But find one that will. One that knows and understands different ingredients in different products and how they work. Because everyone needs something different and what works for my hair may not be what will work for yours.
